Forced ventilation modification
Back to fridge
When the fridge was installed into the van it was installed into a
very small cupboard, there was no air inlet for cool air and almost
no air outlet for warm air - this was against the instructions for
the fridge
another case of the installers not having much of a clue.
I first put a air inlet in the floor to allow cold air in.
Unfortunately this still did not provide enough flow to the back of
the fridge resulting in the fridge compressor getting very hot and
running for extended periods.
To compound the issue the van builders cut the vent in the side of
the van behind the wrong cupboard so the flow of warm air out was
very poor - if at all.
I decided to install a small PC fan, I enlarged the vent hole at the
top of the fridge cupboard and blocked the other vents.
I fitted some 100 mm flexible ducting (screwfix) and piped to the
vent position.
Now when the fridge is running cool air (shaded and under the van)
is sucked in passed the compressor and heat ex changer and out of
the vent.
I held a smoking joss stick by the air intake and smoke is being
sucked in you can all feel the air being blown out of the vent
(gentle breeze) and also the sweet smell of jasmine !
I am able to monitor the temperature behind the fridge and the
intake temperature under the van, I have 2 additional temperature
probes connected to the Afterburner
which can be viewed on
the Afterburner control web pages - updates via MQQT
